Extended Description

The Tony and Sheelagh Williams Charitable Foundation is an independent grant-making charity. It was established in 2008 following the sale of the Williams family’s printing business, Williams Lea.

The foundation gives funds to charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales within a set of carefully considered guidelines.

The funding is intended for charities that can provide the greatest tangible benefit to people most in need.

Latest Information

Applications will be considered twice annually in September and March. The cut-off date for applications is 1 September and 1 March respectively.

Key Criteria

Charities registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales can apply.

Preference will be given to charities:

  • With a turnover of no more than £2 million.
  • Are based in London and the South East of England.

The Foundation favours charities that are providing innovative solutions to entrenched problems, that embrace new technology, that demonstrate they can learn and adapt as circumstances change, and that always have the welfare of their employees and volunteers in mind.

Eligible Expenditure

The funding is for charitable projects that support the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in society. This may include, for example, charities that address the needs of people who are suffering because of poverty, homelessness, abuse, neglect, illness, disability, addiction or age.

Applicants must be able to show that there is clear evidence that their work has a positive impact.


The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Individuals.
  • Large charities.
  • Research projects.
  • Private/public schools, colleges or universities.
  • Animal charities.
