Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards support local community projects which are based in areas where Tesco has stores.

Funding is available to provide practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit either health, sustainability or opportunities for young people in the local communities in areas where Tesco has stores in the UK.

First 2015 deadline: 24 April 2015 (midnight).


Key Criteria

Registered charities and not for profit organisations are eligible to apply. Projects must be based in areas in the UK where Tesco has stores. 

Organisations must have a turnover of under £5 million.


Eligible Expenditure

Funding is available to provide practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit either health, sustainability or opportunities for young people in the local communities in areas where Tesco has stores in the UK.

Projects should be able to demonstrate that they can lead to tangible benefits in the following areas:

  • Health - to promote health and wellbeing initiatives and programmes.
  • Opportunities for young people - to inspire, equip and enable young people under 25 years to fulfil their potential by improving their skills and their employment prospects.
  • Sustainability - to reducing the environmental footprint whilst making a positive impact in the community.

Projects that may receive support include the following:

  • Health:
    • Improving diets and encouraging healthy eating.
    • Involvement in sport and physical activity.
  • Opportunities for young people:
    • Education and training programmes which develop key skill that prepare young people for work, no matter what career they want to pursue.
    • Support to vulnerable, disengaged groups and young people in long term unemployment.
    • Learning programmes for young people with disabilities.
    • Access to information, skills and opportunities young people need to start successful careers.
  • Environmental sustainability:
    • Helping people reduce the amount of food they throw away at home.
    • Helping people recycle more or save more energy or water.
    • Local eco initiatives in the community that contribute to global environmental impact.
    • Projects that encourage sustainable living.
    • Wildlife conservation projects.

Restrictions

The Trust will not fund the following:

  • Salaries and other core costs.
  • Fundraising events or challenges.
  • Conferences or seminars.
  • Grants to individuals, including students.
  • Activities which collect funds for redistribution to other charities or individuals.
  • Purchase of land or buildings.
  • Building costs.
  • Overseas appeals.
  • Expeditions or overseas travel.
  • Promotion of religion.
  • Promotion of political messaging.
  • Sponsorship and marketing promotions.
  • Endowment funds.
  • Organisations which have received a Community Award in the past three years.
