The Rowing Foundation is a registered charity set up in 1981.

The Rowing Foundation aims to aid and support young people and the disabled of all ages through their participation in rowing.

Key Criteria

Funding is available to schools, organisations and clubs in Britain that are involved in the water elements of the sport of Rowing and who are individually affiliated to British Rowing (other than via their governing body).

Eligible Expenditure

Grants are made to support rowing.

Preference is given to encouraging participation in rowing by the young or disabled through the provision of equipment, such as boats, sculls, ergos, oars and essential safety equipment.

Match Funding Restrictions

Grants are made for up to 50% of the cost to initiate projects when the applicant can demonstrate their ability to complete the project.


Grants are not made to the following:

  • Individuals.
  • Purposes which may be considered elite.
  • General funds.
  • To support sailing or swimming.

Coaching, revenue or any commitments requiring long term support are rarely approved.
