Description

Grants are available to support community groups in Berkshire undertaking work that helps people of all ages to build their skills, increase their sense of achievement and ultimately feel more included in their community.


Extended Description

Comic Relief has teamed up with Berkshire Community Foundation and BBC South to bring Red Nose Day Community Cash grants to Berkshire.

Comic Relief believes that local people know what is needed in their community and are best placed to make the required changes; therefore, this fund aims to support community groups undertaking work that helps people of all ages feel more included in their community.

Comic Relief is particularly interested in funding projects that:

  • Improve people's life skills, education, employability and enterprise.
  • Maximise people's ability to strengthen community cohesion and build social capacity.
  • Provide people with opportunities to access local services, achieve greater social justice and to reduce inequality, exclusion and disadvantage.
  • Advance people's physical and mental health, wellbeing and safety.
  • Connect people with the arts, culture and heritage.
  • Transform people's access to, and engagement with, the environment and public spaces.

Key Criteria

Local constituted voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises, community interest companies, co-operatives and faith organisations are eligible to apply.

Groups that have been established for less than 12 months are also eligible to apply.

To be eligible, groups must:

  • Be working with a deprived or disadvantaged community.
  • Have an annual income of less than £100,000.
  • Be run by local people.
  • Have limited access to other sources of income.
  • Be aiming to deliver social outcomes.

Priority will be given to groups that have not previously received funding from this scheme.


Eligible Expenditure

Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Parent and toddler groups.
  • Equipment/materials for sports groups.
  • Cross generational work, for example young people volunteering at an old people’s home.
  • Social and/or lunch clubs for isolated individuals.
  • Running costs for self-help groups.
  • Training for volunteers, committee members and staff.
  • Disability sports clubs/activities.
  • Training and volunteering projects.
  • Community cohesion day events.
  • Community groups and start-up costs for new groups.
  • Bereavement support groups.
  • Social groups for people with mental health problems.
  • Carer support groups.
  • Advice services to help people resolve money worries.

Restrictions

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Individuals.
  • Statutory organisations (including schools).
  • Trips abroad.
  • Buses, mini buses or other community transport schemes (not including transport costs forming part of a project).
  • Building costs, including access adaptations to buildings.
  • The promotion of politics or religion.

Application Procedure

This is a biennial scheme.

Application forms are available to complete online at the Berkshire Community Foundation's website during the application period.

The following supporting documents will also need to be submitted by email or post:

  • A signed copy of the group’s constitution/governing documents.
  • A copy of the organisation's most recent accounts.
  • A list of the names and contact details of members of the group’s management committee/trustees/directors (of which there must be at least three).
  • A copy of the organisation’s child protection policy or safeguarding vulnerable adult’s policy (where relevant).
