Funding is provided at the discretion of the Trustees. Previous grants have been made for up to £250,000. Most grants are for up to £50,000.

Extended Description

QBE Insurance Group, one of the world's leading international insurers and reinsurer, is based in Australia and operates worldwide, including the UK. The QBE Foundation was established in 2011 to mark 125 years of the QBE Insurance Group being in business, and it plays a significant part in its corporate responsibility programmes.

The Foundation’s philosophy is to support charities that help people overcome disadvantage, strengthen their abilities and live more independently, successfully and productively.

The Foundation’s work in the UK and Europe is carried out by the QBE European Operations (EO) Foundation.

The following types of support are provided:

  • Discretionary grants to registered charities that align with the Foundation’s philosophy.
  • Employee matched funding £1 for £1 up to £10,000 per year.
  • Matched payroll giving £1 for £1 up to £1,000 per month per employee.
  • Employee volunteering: each employee may take one day paid absence per year to volunteer with a registered charity.

In addition, UK employees select a charity partner for the year. This charity is the focus of the organisation’s fundraising activities.

UK registered charities are eligible to apply.

Grant applications with QBE employee sponsorship will have a greater likelihood of success over those without.

Eligibility Expenditure

Funding is available for defined projects that will help people overcome disadvantage, strengthen their abilities, and live more independently, successfully and productively.

Projects should meet the following objectives of the Foundation:

  • The relief of financial hardship in the UK by providing grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities in the UK and Europe whose aims include advancing education, training, skills development, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.
  • To assist charities in such ways as the charity Trustees see fit, whose focus is on providing educational opportunities, work opportunities, work ready initiatives and healthcare support for those in need in the UK and Europe.


Funding is not available for the following:

  • Political causes and organisations.
  • Local authorities.
  • Union-affiliated organisations.
  • Religious teaching organisations.
  • Schools and associated parent teacher organisations.
  • Organisations which incur administration fees exceeding 15% of donations received.
  • Costs of individual members of staff.
